We went to the bank on Saturday and thought everything had gone well, then when we got home we went to setup online banking for the new account. This is when we discovered that the bank had spelled my wife's name wrong! Now we gotta go back this Saturday and fill out all these papers. Just goes to show you. Triple check EVERYTHING mi gente!

Tirso, here is what they say about Shysters... Y eso no tuyo mi amigo..

A shyster is a slang word for someone who acts in a disreputable, unethical, or unscrupulous way, especially in the practice of law, politics or business.

Marc you are so proud of her having a credit card.  Be careful my friend that is nothing to be proud of as I told you in the other group.... There are female sankies and it doesn't "end" when they come to the USA.  Go check out the guy who's wife left when she got her citizenship... Enjoy the ride.

At some point you have to have faith in your relationship and trust your partner. The other thing is if they are not in a community property state, then her debt will be just that - her debt. Even if they ARE in a community property state, in the divorce hearing the judge will assign the debt as he sees fit and generally if she took out the credit card using her financial info and not his, she will be responsible for the card.

It's good for them to establish good credit when they get here and they have a unique opportunity because essentially they are treated like a new credit risk since their information from the DR means nothing to the American credit companies. They get to start over and build good credit history and that helps both parties in the relationship. I agree with Marc on this, it was a very good thing for her to get some credit early on. Sure, he is taking some risk if she leaves him but why have that defeatist attitude? I know you and I have seen many relationships fail, but here we actually have some that are still going after many years. If you think that you will fail, you surely will.

Indeed it is a ride.. Married to a Dominican is definately a different situation. There are so many Dominican traits that I truely love, and others that.. well.. Are not as pleasant.. Great way to put it Jenny..
