Hubby's Adjustment in the USA
« on: December 11, 2013, 04:17:29 pm »
He has totally adjusted right away... We don't eat rice daily, but maybe a few times a week and he's been ok with it.. When he's really in need of rice though we make it.. some times he's like Amor, I really am dying for some rice.. and between the two of us we will make it.. He's a huge help and has always been!!

He's spending a lot of tie studying for his written test for his drivers license.. He is "NEVER" going to be ready I'm going to have to just push him to do it, I know he's prepared... he's read the book a few times.

He takes my mom's big dog for a walk daily.. He laughs and says that the dog helps him find his way home.. lol..

Jobs.. well he has not sit still and he's done several odd jobs around the town.. Raking leaves, shoveling, cleaning out gutters, helped someone put up a fence (ground was really hard but worked hard to do it)..

Today he came to me and said, Amor, you know the bible tells me I need to provide for my family.. 2 Thessalonians 6:13 says:
6 In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, we command you, brothers and sisters, to keep away from every believer who is idle and disruptive and does not live according to the teaching[a] you received from us. 7 For you yourselves know how you ought to follow our example. We were not idle when we were with you, 8 nor did we eat anyone’s food without paying for it. On the contrary, we worked night and day, laboring and toiling so that we would not be a burden to any of you. 9 We did this, not because we do not have the right to such help, but in order to offer ourselves as a model for you to imitate. 10 For even when we were with you, we gave you this rule: “The one who is unwilling to work shall not eat.”

11 We hear that some among you are idle and disruptive. They are not busy; they are busybodies. 12 Such people we command and urge in the Lord Jesus Christ to settle down and earn the food they eat. 13 And as for you, brothers and sisters, never tire of doing what is good.

These verses are what he says he holds true and he will get to work as soon as he possibly can.  I have never put any pressure on him, but for most men they feel someone has taken their "Man Card" away if they are not working.. My ex-husband was like that, and I am so blessed that this man is like that.

In the DR he didn't work the past few months before coming to the US because we had moved closer to his family so that he could be near them and say goodbye.. but I think he felt better because he had a cushion from his own savings account that he was living off of.. well we were.. so he felt ok.. by the time we got to the USA and exchanged his pesos to dollars he had about $640. which got him his phone, and clothes.. so now he's just feeling like he needs to be doing so much more..

I try not to be offended as I understand that he lives by the bible 100% and he takes it completely not just parts of it.. so I know that he feels he needs to be doing more, but I told him that this is God's will.. He will be working as soon as he gets his SS card which he hasn't..

That's about all.. He loves the snow, I hate it.. He loves the cold, I can't stand it.. lol.. He loves NY and I want to go back to the DR.. :)

Well oh well… hubby and I are doing well. I must confess he is bored to pieces. He finally received his ss card. Last Monday we went to DMV and ordered his ID card. He will not step out the house without his cedula(so he calls his ID a cedula) okaaayyy!!!!  His green card has been paid for. We are also waiting on that. I was informed it can take up to 30 days to receive it.Hmmm !!! I paid  fee on Nov 21 Go figure… they take out the money quickly from US bank , but take forever to release the card.. oh well. I  guesss a lil more waiting for us. lol .Took him to McD’s filled out the appl.. We are waiting for E- Verify to give him the green light.  He will be unloading the trucks and working at the back end. Till then he has bonded with my baby girl (dog) Chigui. They are the best of friend. He is not use to being in the house 24/7.   HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO ALL!!!! :champagne:

Ahhh Chancyboo!!!!!!!!!  We are right there with one another!! :)

I went to DMV today, but you can't get a license without a SS card.. Darn SS!!!

I also couldn't change my name over to Zorrilla because my marriage certificate is in Spanish, and the English translation (although legalized) lol  is not accepted by the NYS DMV.. Uhm, WHAT?! Really?! lol... Yeah, so I have to change my name over on everything else and earn "points" to be able to change over my own drivers license.. Ridiculous!! I'm so fed up with NYS I want to go back HOME.. :)

Home is in the DR.. I hate this cold!!! lol

I was talking to ClaryWaldo lastnight for a long time because my dad was saying that with the new oil found a few years ago in ND it's a great place to live and I was thinking if my hubby could get a really high paying job I would totally move.. and then after hearing that here in NY it's 20 degrees and ND was -4, I just cannot!! lol.. Although it would be nice to be near other Dom/American families.. :)

So then I was researching down south by you Chancyboo... You may get new neighbors sometime!! :)

lol..

I can't take this freaking cold..

i have lived in New york city and Florida. To be honest.  NC.. Is the place to be.. If you are trying to get away from coolldddd weather.. Yes we have our 20 30 .. at 7 am. then at 2 pm it is up to 50 or 60.. We have all the seasons here. as far as pay... I will not move from here.. Especially me.. being bilingual.. The mula is here..... I make 9 dol an hr more.. then what i use to make in florida.. Sorry QBAN.. but FL is invaded with hispanic.. unless you are self employed.. the max for a hispanic is about 10 - 13 per hr.. with schooling.. Me.. I am very close to the 18-20 p/h. So yes a big difference. hubby was telling me to tell you to come to NC.. So he can have Francisco close by.. You should research dear.. as far as work.. environment schools etc.. though I know you do homeschooling..

When I changed my name on my license in Florida, I used the marriage certificate in Spanish. However, the clerk forced me to put both my husband's last names on my license. She said that because his official documents listed both names, I had to take both names. Then she gave me a lecture about the Latin naming system (as if I don't know). I looked at her and said, "Okay, so you just told me that one name is from his father, one is from his mother, and that most Latinos use only the father's last name. Why are you giving me a hard time about this? The U.S. Passport agency asked if I wanted both names or just his common name, and its a more official document than a license."

I love government employees.

OrionShadow..thanks for loving ME...LOL!!!  The lady at DMV stared at passport as if it was an alien. Looks at me and asked me where is the stamp? I said.. MA'AM to your left dated Nov 2nd by imigration at POE. She just stared at me ans says.. I am looking now for expiration date.. If you know me.. I am not shy speaking up. I looked at her straight in her eyes and said.. Ma'am with all due respect firstly yu should look at document comepletely before asking any questions. With that said.. Look at USA visa page it is on your bottom right hand corner.. It will expire on 04/30/2014. Did not dare ask anymore questions..only when she really pissed me off.. and continually wanted to ask my husband questions in english.... knowing I had stated to her upon our arrival that i am his wife and will act as his interpreter if they did not have a spanish speaking agent. She was very happy to get rid of us..

When I went to the social security office to change my name on my card, I gave them the marriage certificate in spanish. They had spanish speaking people there and said thats all i would need.  :toast:

When I went to the DMV, they wanted it offically translated and notarized in English. They allowed me to take his fathers last name only, as that what was on our marriage certificate.  :yeah:

When he went to get his Social security card and license, they used his mothers last name as his last name. So, we are married but have 2 different last names from each other. hahaha :rotfl: :rotfl:

I always carry my translated marriage certificate in my pocket book, in case of emergency.

And as Boo said someplace that her husband carries his ID like if it is his cedula. Mine does thesame. In DR, if you are stopped without your cedula, you go to jail. That is why they are like that. My husband carries his ID with him everyplace. I guess it's just a habit that they have.  :rotfl:

As far as where to live, there are many states and they all are different.I am from Mass., but have been here in Florida for 20 years now. When it gets 60 degrees here I freeze my butt off.I could never live up north again. In Florida, we can't live without AC on, but in DR we lived with no AC and it was fine.

There are jobs out there if you look for them.My husband works and makes more than me as he is an upholster, and has his own profession. One good thing is most of these guys are"jack of all trades", and can always get a job as a handyman and work under someone, even if they don't speak english. ( just a suggestion).

Yes, Florida salaries pay very little, but the cost of life here is cheap also.I would make double of what I make if I lived up north, but here in Florida, I own my own home, something that when I lived up north could never do. Plus down here, i use 1 set of clothes all year round. no winter clothes needed. ;)

But i will admit I hate Florida. If I could get a home up north, I would leave here in a second.I miss mi barrios en el norte.

It's okay! I'm a government employee, too. :)

We have been home 7 weeks and no Social Security Card in sight..

I was wondering that if I didn't pay the $165 if it would hold it up.. and I am starting to think maybe it has.. I paid that online today.. so 7 weeks and I paid the Immigration fee.. Now I will let you know if the card comes quicker as I think that was Suzy's experience!

Isn't the $165 the other half of the  DS-260 fee?  This must be paid or he doesn't get residency!

I don't think so D-mo, I'm pretty sure it is just a new immigration fee. Another way to make money. BUT it definitely HAS to be paid!! That could very well be why everything is taking so long.
