Hello Everyone,
I have recently began an online relationship with a man from DR. I believe he is sincere and if things go well I want to bring him here. He was denied a tourist visa because he didnt have much assets except his kids and his MOM. Anyway, I am a nurse and I am ready to spend some time with him there.

First, welcome to the forum.

Second, Slow down! They're all sincere. They're all smooth talkers and they're all convincing (speaking on the men for the most part, but a growing number of women as well)! So convincing in fact, that they could probably blow everyone away at the Emmy awards in just about every category if they were in the movies!

Third, please don't take offense! As a member here for years, I've seen it a million and one times...... And you'll probably hear this from many members. Hopefully, maybe you got lucky. If you have, congratulations, and he won't mind taking his time and neither should you.

Fourth, there is a plethora of information here...... probably more than you could ever use. There are also so very many disaster stories and probably just as many success stories. No one can ever truly say "I've seen it all"! But here, I gotta say, we come dang close to it.

We have lots of good folks here, with a lot of knowledge and useful information. Don't be afraid to take advantage of any of it! We're here to help.

I also met someone online. That was five years ago this July. We will be celebrating our fourth wedding anniversary in a week. On May 28th. On June 1st she will be here two years. We have a 10 month old boy who is the best thing in my life.

As the others have said, anything is possible. Both good and bad. I'm not here to judge because I did the same thing, but I will be honest. Even if it hurts alittle.

Take things nice and easy. Slow is the way to go! But you got to be in it to win it! So don't be afraid! We are here to guide you! We are here to help so don't be shy. Best of luck to you!!!

Not trying to be sexist or partial. There are good and bad dominicans just like there are good and bad every where. However DR is high on list of countries where visa fraud is common. If a system can be gamed, dominicans will game it. Look at any flight leaving DR, the amount of people traveling in wheel chairs is 4x any other flight I ever take. They figured out they do not have to wait in lines and get to board first.

I also met my wife online, but quickly the conversations switched to telephone and we met in person very quickly as I was living in DR. We have known each other 7 years and lived together 6.

Also on other forums women starting relationships with DR men, get warned way more frequently than men starting relationships with DR women. The whole sanky panky thing. Often the women complain there is a double standard. At first I tended to agree.

However there is a HUGE difference. Over 17 years of traveling to DR and 13 living here, I have met many, many DR women that complain about DR men and that they would never date or marry a DR man as they are unfaithful, don't respect women etc etc etc. Obviously not true for all DR men but I have met many w woman that said "mejor sola de mal acompanada". better alone than with bad company.

NEVER met a DR man that didn't love DR women. Often they love LOTS of DR women. . . .lol.

Also in many DR universities the ratio of wmen to men is pretty high. When these women graduate and enter the professional world, they tend to not want to "marry down". There will be and is a shortage of professional men for professional women to date and marry. So there are two reasons besides getting the ever important greencard that DR women also have to date foreign men. DR men. . . not so much.

Now. Having said all that. Many years ago, I was in a taxi and the taxista said he had a novia from chicago. That he loved her very much. he proudly showed me a foto and lets just say the woman was older, heavier and not a very attractive woman. Nothing wrong with that, but normally would be red flag.

However the guy was smiling ear to ear. My radar may have been spotty but I got a legit vibe that he really loved her. One can normally tell when they are playing the game. This guys body language and demeanor all said he was in love. More power to him!

Even putting all of that aside. Slooooow down. Even if he is the greatest guy in the world, knowing someone online or even on short trips where you are basically on vacation, is not the same as actually living together in a country foreign to them. New language, new culture, new rules and laws. heck just having rules and laws can be culture shock.

Sounds like toasterhombre has been reading my old posts. The reason Dominican men are the way they are is because there are 7 women for every man in the DR. This explains a lot of things - they have their pick of the women they want. Why would they have to go for a foreign woman?
