Approaching 4 months
« on: March 12, 2016, 04:36:24 pm »
Hi,

Just wanted to check in. We've been in the USA about 4 months, settled into our home in Denver, Colorado for 3. My husband (Cheo) got a full-time job in his field 1 month ago, and he loves it. (How blessed). He was just about to lose hope and find 'any' job when he was offered a great position.

So far so good! He's transitioning well, as is our Cabarete dog, lol. We miss the chaos of life in DR, but we're also happy to be earning a decent income and saving money!

If anyone is in Colorado, say hello. We can't wait for summer... like, cannot wait! x

Glad to hear things are all good!

Stick around and tell us some adjustment stories.

How did you enjoy the headache of getting the dog out of D.R.? LOL

We brought our dog from there as well.

Glad to hear that things are going well. Right, cold weather is not a big hit. Cold is something that can not be explained. It has to be felt. I still remember the first time Victoria saw snow......

It was so easy to get her out of DR actually. We all joked that it's much easier to be a dog than a human. She just needed a few shots, her travel cage, bill of health/no worms, etc.. It was a little bit of a whirlwind in DR airport, since they wanted us to take a few extra $tep$, but that's to be expected. In the USA, they just asked "has she got her rabies shot?" we said yes and he let her pass through without a wink. I don't even know if he actually looked at her paperwork. The funniest part was our layover in Miami. We had to walk her the entire time. They have a dog park, but all of the birds were in the trees shitting everywhere so we had to evade their shitting. Quite funny, but we were so happy to be in the USA we didn't mind much.

Glad to hear things are all good!

We drove into Colorado around December 15, the day after a massive snow. It was quite funny for me to watch (since I had lived here 1.5 years before, and knew the massive, fluffy snows CO experiences). We're expecting another snow today/tomorrow! Saw the flurries as I dropped Cheo off at work.

We're relocating in a year for my grad program. I'm definitely working on scratching off any cold weather places... San Diego or Phoenix are high on my list! Wouldn't mind saying bye bye to our winter jackets.

Glad to hear that things are going well. Right, cold weather is not a big hit. Cold is something that can not be explained. It has to be felt. I still remember the first time Victoria saw snow......

The airport there was nuts trying to get them to let the dog on the plane. I guess they've relaxed a little since we took our dog through. We had to go to 3 different vets for shots and letters, then to a specific vet to get an actual "official" bill of health, then again she had to be "inspected" at the airport in SDQ to be sure she was "fit to fly". Then, the wife had to give up her personal item (hand bag) and put it into her carry on, so that the dog and carrier could take place of it.......and still had to pay $100 to the airline. We also landed in Miami, In D.R. they told us we MUST show the papers we had to the Customs agent  when we land. Well, we landed and had like 3-4 documents pertaining to the dog and the guy was like "WTF is all this? I can't read Spanish, what do you want me to do with stuff I can't read? Cute dog, have a nice day"! We also had to take the dog out and walk her there. We were supposed to only be in Miami airport for an hour and a half, but for some reason the airline decided to strait up cancel the last leg of our flight, so we ended up sitting at Miami airport for a full 8 hours, with 8 huge suitcases, 4 carry on suit cases, the dog and personal items. They wouldn't even offer to store our luggage, we had to push that shit around everywhere for the entire 8 hours! What a night mare that was.
