Legal Resident for 20 years -- Hasn't Renewed his Greencard.. ughhh

Tonight my son (My stepson from my first marriage who I've had with me since he was 3 years of age), just told me that his "temporary" greencard expired last month.. lol..

Of course mom is freaking out.. So we "renewed" his greencard last year... and they send him a temporary while they process his renewal...  My husbands came the SAME month it expired.. My son's though is still not here.. Of course I am calling on Monday, but I'm really in awe and hope there isn't an issue..

He's high functioning autistic and hasn't applied for citizenship yet.. he graduated from high school here, but I don't think it's enough to pass citizenship.. his father became a citizen when my son was 19 go figure.. Arghh.. My poor baby..

Just venting and hoping for some good vibes that this all works out.. things are a bit stressful with immigration like we all know!!

He should have been a derivative of his father BEFORE he turned 18, you only had to send in his application and proof of the father's citizenship and he would have gotten back a Certificate of Citizenship. Naturalization would not have been necessary.

Since he has passed 18 now, naturalization would be a snap! With a disability, I seriously doubt he would even have to answer any of the 5 questions. Other than that, they only ask to write down your address or a simple sentence in English and that's it.

Anywhoooo So with an expired card should we start citizenship, or should I call to see where his new green card is?

As long as you have the extension letter, he's legal. Contact the USCIS to make sure, but I don't see why you couldn't file the N-400.
