Hello everyone,

I just joined the board this morning.

I am an American who is a long term resident in the Dominican Republic.

I married a devoutly religious Dominican girl (my second marriage) last year, and am now attempting to get her a B1/B2 VISA so she can go to the US with me to meet the family.

We have no plans to move there, so we are looking at yearly 1 week vacations to the states, nothing more.

We applied for a VISA twice this year, and she has been turned down both times, both times being told they see nothing that would guarantee her return if she went.

I'm hoping to get some help or opinions from some of the members here.

Here are some things that they look for when granting Tourist Visas to the USA:

Income Level

Having money in the bank

Explanation of how the trip is being financed

Employment Letter (A letter from an employer stating how long the person has been employed, their current salary, how much vacation time they are given, that the person is expected to return to work at a specific date, etc.)

Letter of Employment from a spouse stating the above and that they are expected to continue in their employment

Owning Property (even a car can help)

Having a lease in their name

Enrollment in School

Bills in their name

Membership in organizations (if she is active in her church this could help)

Proof of having traveled to other countries and returning in a timely manner.

The DR is a high fraud rate country. This makes getting a Tourist Visa difficult in and of itself. Then, adding the fact that they are married to a US citizen, and that they are going to visit the family and friends of the US citizen makes it just too easy for the person to stay and adjust status (AOS) in the US. You are going to have to give overwhelming evidence that your wife has strong ties to her country and will return.

I hope this has helped.
