My SO had his interview on Thursday, the 13th.  Instead of waiting for DOMEX to deliver, he called to see if it was ready for him to pick it up.  He picked up the visa on Wednesday morning - the 19th.  If you have a ticket, you definitely should try and pick up the visa rather than wait for it to be delivered.

The only people that I have been through this with is of coarse American Airlines and Dominican Immigrations, they have asked to see the return ticket on a couple of occasions. Doesn't happen all the time, but it does happen.

Folks, do as you think best, but as Tim says...No whining....if it doesn't come

I've been flying to/from the DR for several decades and have never been asked for a return ticket.  Never.  And I've never seen this "requirement" in print.

But should the case arise I will tell them that I don't yet know if I'm returning directly to the USA or to Honduras, Ecuador, etc.  That's my story and I'm sticking to it!   8)   ;)

Our interview was on 3/11 so tomorrow it will be 2 weeks but my SO hasn't received his passport yet, but the CO did tell us it could take up to a month.  I had to fly back home since I was only able to take 2 weeks off.  Both my daughter & I flew AA w/a one way ticket & had no problems.

How about if they just use the money from the courier fee , to be used towards a person salary. Have a window to pick up visas, and that's it...

In my case it might be because of the additional paperwork that Ms. Smith needed from the NVC, but I called the NVC today & was told that my file was sent to DR the week of 3/11 so it looks like Ms. Smith requested it the same day of our cita, they said it goes out DHL so it would have arrived in no more than 2 days.  I'm hoping that we will be getting the visa this week.

Note that documents will be there in 2 days but could take 6 or 7 days to clear customs.

I didn't know docs had to clear customs....Oh well, I guess we can only wait.  If we don't receive it by next week is there a way to check w/the consulate on the status????

Our's was on 03/10 and she still hasn't received her visa... We did choose to go with the IR1 instead of the K3 but we were told that the Petition was "on it's way" from the NVC. I called the NVC and they said the petition was sent back from SDO on Jan 18th but then when the NVC agent tracked it she said it never left the consulate... I have sent a couple faxes Mr. Bent but still haven't received any kind of response back.

kverdugo, did you tell the CO you wanted to be interviewed for the IR-I?  I wonder if it's the IR-1 that are taking so long.

Does the type of visa matter for delivery time?  I guess I was under the impression that this wasn't a factor... Insight, anyone??  Just trying to plan for when our time finally rolls around!  :yeah:  Limited vacation time, ya know!

Yeah I was suprised that the CO gave us the option. We originally were going to do the IR1 for K3 switch thing but when we found out they sent our I130 back I thought it wasn't going to work. The CO told me we could and the I130 was on it's way back to the consulate and she would have to go back to get the vacunas. Anyways...diske the only thing holding up them issuing the visa is the I130 petition.

So, Tropical and Kverdugo, you guys are still waiting on docs in transit for the NVC?  That most likely is the hold-up, not the visa type, IMHO... Hope things get worked out soon for the both of you!

It shouldn't really makes any difference. The only problem with our case is that they supposedly sent the I130 back to the NVC in late Jan. Even though the NVC says they[the consulate] never sent it.

Yes, my doc's were supposedly sent from the NVC the same week of our interview 3/11, Tim says it takes like a week to clear customs, so it very well could be the hold up....After waiting soooo long for an interview, you'd think that finally you'd rest easy once your approved, BUT, the wait goes on, hopefully this one will be a matter of 3 or 4 weeks only(we've already been waiting 2).  We're anxious to be together already & start our life here in the states.  People here (I get this all the time) can't understand why this process is so complicated & long & why the US would put families & loved ones thru this ordeal, Americans don't realize how the rest of the world has it when it comes time for them to try to travel out of their countries.

You will NOT be sorry you waited a bit more, trust me, no AOS, no EAD, no Advance parole, not even lifting conditions as I just did, nothing, nada, after they get here. 10 year green card right away, and SS card too. No problems in the US. You will be glad you did it.

The only thing that scares me is that the NVC says they were never sent the I130 from Sto Dgo because it never left there and the Consulate says it's on it's way back from the NVC... which makes no sense. In my opinion, for what it's worth, they should just issue the visa since common sense says the I130 was obviously already approved we got this far.
