I'm not one of the experts but if I'm not mistaken they put the visa inside her pasport.  Atleast that's what I've seen when people apply at my job, its just an added page that says visa and her info

Maybe I missed it, but when my wife went to the consulate to give in the two documents that they wanted after our interview approval which was the prior Wed. Yesterday they, the consulate and then I guess Domex, took and kept her Dominican Passport as well.  Will they be sending the passport back to her with the Visa and why did they take her passport? She could not tell me why and unfortunately she did'nt ask which sort of made me ask her whatever happened to common sense which all of you know started a little tiff! :beathorse:

Well, Dominicans are like this with authorities. They NEVER ask questions and when you ask them they don't say anything.

Anyway, she didn't do anything wrong, they HAVE TO take her passport to put the visa in it. It's actually stuck inside the passport on a page. Everything is fine. Now you can apologize and make up. ;)

Also folks please be aware that just because the CO says your approved it does not mean they are finished with your visa. During our visit with Mr. Bent, once approved by the CO, there are additional security checks that the embassy must put your visa through, they could not go into details for security reasons, but its not over till you have that visa in your hand.

I will post my horror story when I return to the states, but for now, I am waiting for Domex to deliver the visa to Santiago, and if it doesn´t get there tomorrow, I´m dead.  I know you shouldn´t buy the ticket first, but I was under the impression that it took a few days, no more.  I, the petitioner, has to be at the interview, and I need to return with the benificiary; that would require two seperate trips, since I can´t stay in D.R. for 2 or 3 weeks if it takes that long.  I bought the ticket for Sunday, having the visa approved the previous Monday (1 week).  The whole process is a joke, a shame.  I don´t care about the price of changing the ticket, it´s not knowing when the visa will be ready.  I´ll return on Sunday, and then find out the visa is ready on Monday.

If its not in STI today call Domex and see if you can go pick it up in SDQ instead, I rather take the trip and not have to reschedule and pay additional fees. Also call the visa specialist line 202-663-1225 and ensure the visa has been issued and printed.

o.k., so we were approved on a Monday morning.  Not too painful; about 3 1/2 hours inside the building.  We called Domex in Santiago on on Wed, and Thurs., but nothing.  Thank God on Friday it was ready.

Thanks BM. Just read it. That is a difficult deal.

A note for all since this is the Domex thread. 15 days for my SO visa to get to Santiago because of a spelling error in her name. It was reissued in her passport a week later. The first one says in big red letters "CANCELLED WITHOUT PREJUDICE".

Well, yes, the real horror story, which is continuing, is on the other thread.  As for Domex, it's the pressure of not knowing when the visa will be ready for pickup.  It's the planning that is the problem.  The couple would like to, and surely needs to return back to the states together, so planning your vacation is rough.  O.K., so if you don't buy your ticket, or your spouse's ticket until you have the visa in hand, prepare to get robbed by the airline by buying the ticket one day in advance, especially in August.  I could swear a buddy of mine told me that back in the day, he got the visa on the same day of approval.
Sorry, but I have a lot of bitterness with the process, which is much more difficult than it has to be, and I don't think that a taxpayer, who has not had trouble with the law should have to wait this long.  I don't care about people walking over from Mexico each day, but it does make you think as you suffer with this process.  They've misplaced forms of mine, and both agencies, USCIS and the NVC have different requirements, but require basically the same forms.  I feel bad for the people who don't speak, read, or write English well; they have it tougher than we do.

We got our visa the same day back in 2006, but they discontinued this to eliminate the backlog at the embassy, which is a GOOD THING. How would you like to wait two years for your wife to get an appt at the Embassy? I did. You take your pick, 3-5 days for Domex or 2 year wait for the interview, which one would YOU like to do?

Ya know it's pretty easy, take off at least a week after the cita to ensure getting the visa. If it takes longer than that then your case isn't the "standard" case and there isn't anything you can do about it. Buy your ticket ahead of time and if you can't go, pay the $100 to change it. It's a small price to pay for piece of mind.

I know, and flights now until Ocober 27, with Jet Blue if you leave on a Wednesday or Thursday is $9.00 each way from Orlando,FLorida.Cheap from other places also.I wish I could go but need to save my $$$$ for the consulates pocket.
Can't we just pick up the papers at Domex at the embassy a couple of days after the CITA instead of them delivering it ???

YES, where have YOU been? We suggest picking up the visa at Domex in SDQ and NOT having it delivered. You certainly CAN and SHOULD do this.
