Hello

You gotta figure out that well bc I sent to my wife a laptop through EPS and we had to declare and paid around RD$ 4,000.00 something to take it off from there. And this is bc it was an electronic that cost over US$ 200.00.

Well camera is making its way back to us here in Wisconsin....we declared the actual value of $450.00 (in case it broke, didn't want to be out the money)   DR customs wanted 12000.00 pesos for duty taxes   Angry !!!!!   Which is almost as much as the camera cost!!  I called fedex and they are sending it back to us.  Unfortunately I think we will be making a quick trip very soon, Franklin's abuela is very very sick, they don't think she will be with us much longer.  I was hoping our first trip back would be for a little R&R, but doesn't look that way.  Thank god I don't pay too much for shipping ( I get a discount through my work).  I guess we'll be hand delivering the camera after all, I just wish it was under better circumstances.

I think that was probably a mistake. Did you mark it as a gift?

What I did is set up a Fed Ex account it doesn't cost anything and you can charge any charges or extra charges to your account this way you intended receiver doesn't have to pay anything to receive the item.  I have never had an outrageous bill.  I had an idea how much the item would cost to send.  It makes life so much easier to send someone something in a hurry and not worry.  If you have a discount with your work just send FedEx.  Or else its a crap shoot.

Yes, I am aware of that. That's how I used to ship DHL, bill fees to sender, but I never got charged duty. It seems like lately they are being really weird with this stuff. I guess they are getting greedy.
