I sent my congressman and email on Oct 25th and all I ever received back was the automated response that they received the email. I contacted him hoping he could help us find out about our AR.

I was wondering if I should send another email since it has almost been 6 weeks and I have not heard anything? Does that seem pushy??  Can anyone tell me how long it has taken for their congressman/woman to respond to an inquiry?

Thanks!

That is NOT being pushy, shit I would have sent another one in two days!

If your first contact does not meet your expectations, try another rep. Some of these elected officials don't care because they know they will be re-elected time and time again. You need to just pass on those.

Ok I am going to try another rep.  Should I stick with congressman or try a senator?

I would try both. I even tried calling other congressman in my state. However, they didn't like that too much and push you to talk to the local office that handles your area.

I would try senators too.

It's tiring at best, but it doesn't hurt to try and contact them.

Finally, in my critique of the immigration image of America, it is also important to know that we're not only a nation of immigrants, but we are in some part a nation of emigrants, which often gets neglected.

Rhenny, I don't get what you are saying. You have two senators and several reps depending on the population of your state. It shouldn't matter what rep you use, but remember, this is a FEDERAL issue, you don't want to bug your state reps about this, it isn't their issue.

Tim,

I contacted Senator Kerry's office, and Kennedy's office (Kennedy died).

Senator Kerry's office looked into my case but no response to calls or e-mails. I only got a letter acknowledging my  inquiry.

I got in touch with the local Congressman's office for my town, this office helped me the most as far as looking into my case.

It felt like running in circles... I was kind of put off by how the senators just brushed me off and I didn't get any response from Kennedy's offices at all... Kerry's office sent me an e-mail thanking me for my inquiry but never followed up on it.

To find your senator -

http://www.senate.gov/general/contact_information/senators_cfm.cfm

just plug in your state it will give you the names and contact info.

and

To find your congressman -

http://www.house.gov/

plug in your zip code and the four digit extension on the far left hand side of the page
Use the zip code finder if you do not know the four digit extension to your postal code.

I contacted Senator Kerry's office, and Kennedy's office (Kennedy died).

Feel frustrated with Kerry's office, but not Kennedy's--they have no power/influence/pull etc. since he died. They are just holding on hoping the new senator will hire them or looking for new jobs.
