Hello everyone:

I have not started the process yet because I will be getting married in July (thanks Tim again for convincing us from doing a K1 to CR1) but before any paper work is submitted we have a "issue" that worries us.  Many years ago my SO was dating someone who put in a K1 application for him. Well they went to the cita in March, 2000 and apparently they where told to return in May,2000. Well they never went to the second cita in 5/2000 because they broke up. So now our question is how can we find out for sure what she did with the application? We think she withdrew it but we want to be 100% sure. 

My second question is how does it look that I haven't been to DR since July 2009 and won't be able to return until the wedding in July 2010? Any ideas are greatly welcomed.

To answer your second question, it looks very bad!!!
You MUST visit you SO more often. One year interval right before the wedding is almost certain reason for denial.
I recommend very strongly:
Find the time, fond the money. Go visit him more!

How about prior July 2009? How often did you visit then?

YOU MUST HAVE HIM CALL THE NVC AND VISA SPECIALIST TO CHECK ON THE STATUS ... HE WILL HAVE TO WRITE A NOTARIZED LETTER TELLING THE NVC, USCIS AND DR CONSULATE TO CANCEL THE PETITION>>> IT WILL STILL BE IN THE SYSTEM .. THEY DO NOT CANCEL ANYTHING UNLESS YOU REQUEST IT IN WRITING ..

First of all I want to say thank you everyone for your reply.  My SO and I appreciate it very much. Someone asked how many visits to DR I did in 2009 well I went 3 times.  One of the visits my SO and I went on a mini vacation to a resort in Puerto Plata for 4 days.

Trust me when I say that I am aware of this no visit to DR since July 09 but does documents showing why I couldn't travel count?  I have documents of the 3 moves I was forced to do (long story) (one in August 2009, another in October 2009 and the final one in January 2010).  Also 2 weeks ago I had huge dental surgery (no insurance and not elective) and had to pay out of pocket almost $7,000.00.  Finally I started a new job and it was hard enough to get a week off for the wedding in July.

I would love to go just for a weekend but from California that is not really feasible with my current job situation.  Gosh I miss living back in NY  Sad long weekend trips would be easier.

Again thank you everyone for your advice and also for reading.  Trust me I am also very frustrated with this entire not seeing my SO for such a long time  and the thought that this is going to hurt our future kills me.
