I have a question.  I am heading to D.R. on Monday.  While I'm there I will pick up my step-daughters birth certificate in-extensa so I can submit her I-130 when I return.  I am still waiting for my NOA 2 for my wife.  In the meantime, is there anything I can have my wife complete while I'm there?  I was thinking maybe we could get the Police Certificate taking care and get about 8 more passport photos taken.  I read that she'll need 2 photos for the Police Certificate, 2 photos with the DS-230,  2 for the Medical Exam, and 1 for the cita.  I don't want to do anything prematurely, but I feel I should be doing something while I'm waiting.   Huh?  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

If you are not planning another trip back there before the cita you should do as much as you can on this trip.

I think you should fill out the DS 230 while you are there, have her sign it but don't date it.

Also, you are going to need to send out original BC, MC, copy of her passport, and like you said the PC as well.

Thanks,  I already have the ready to go.  I'll be sure to pack it.  I'm not sure if I'll go back another time before my cita.  If my cita is not until September or something like that, then I'll return in late June or early July.

Yea basically I did the same thing. I wanted to get everything out of the way before hand. I got her birth certificate and she signed the ds 230 when I went. I also was able to have her take out her passport because she never had one. We had that done in Purto Plata. Now I'm not sure if it was a good idea to do that, but it made it less hectic getting it out of the way earlier.

When I was there in December, she got a new passport and cedula with her new last name.  It took about 3 months for the cedula, but she has it now.  I have her original birth certicate and marriage certificate. So all I need is her signature on the DS-230 and the police cert.

All sounds good, I want to do the same in future.

But someone correct me if I'm wrong, I think you want to wait until 30 days before cita to get police certificate?  I think it is required to be a police checkup no older than 30 days before your cita?

Good luck and enjoy your trip, I'll be there in 15 days myself.

Yes, 30-days is what the Embassy wants for the PC. I had this come up on my k1 case, and I think it used to be good for a year but the new rule is the PC is good for 30 days.

Good luck!

Finally, in my critique of the immigration image of America, it is also important to know that we're not only a nation of immigrants, but we are in some part a nation of emigrants, which often gets neglected.

I think this is all to send with the DS 230...you might have to get everything again for the the cita because I heard that all these CERTIFICATES are not good after some time.

Anybody knows if this is true??
 Huh? Huh?

For the NVC you need all certificates in ORIGINAL , INEXTENSA AND LEGALIZED .. these do not have an expiration date for USCIS, NVC or Consulate

The POLICE CERTIFICATE for NVC has a validity of 1 year

You will need a NEW PC .. dated within 30 days of the INTERVIEW DATE

The DS230 can be signed but not dated

The pictures for the DS230 are to be 2x2

The medical pictures are best done close to the date of the medical exam

You need to also bring back copies of teh BIOGRAPHIC PAGE of the passports

There is a Doc checklist for DS230 in download section

Thanks Yessie.  I'll wait on the pics for the medical and get the PC 30 days before the cita.  I guess I'll get the DS230 signed and copies of both passport biographic pages.

You will need 2 PC's

1 for NVC and another one for before the cita

So you can get one now for the NVC and then get the other one later

For the NVC you need all certificates in ORIGINAL , INEXTENSA AND LEGALIZED .. these do not have an expiration date for USCIS, NVC or Consulate

The POLICE CERTIFICATE for NVC has a validity of 1 year

You will need a NEW PC .. dated within 30 days of the INTERVIEW DATE

The DS230 can be signed but not dated

The pictures for the DS230 are to be 2x2

The medical pictures are best done close to the date of the medical exam

Bangin, so you don't think that we have to get the CERTIFICATES again since I already have originals? I kind of don't like the idea of sending them my only originals... Undecided
