I just got back for DR last night:( While there, me and my SO went to the post office (Inposdom) that corresponds with his address, which is the one right in front of El Parque Colon, to find out about our cita packet (the visa specialist told me it was mailed out to him on 02/19) so I wanted to share with you guys our experience...

We walked into the very tiny post office which was just a counter with a guy sitting behind it...I asked the guy if this was the post office that corresponds with my SO's address and he confirmed that it was...I told him that we were there to find out about our cita packet because we were informed that it was mailed out to my SO on 02/19 but he hadn't received it yet. The guy then told us that the cita packets had to be picked up at the main post office at La Feria because those (the packets) were not sent to the local post offices. Me and my SO just looked at each other, thanked the guy and walked out ready to take a car to the main post office.

Luckily, as we were walking out, a lady was walking in which happened to be another employee there. I guess when she went inside, the guy told her what we had just been asking about because she stepped out and called us back inside. She told us that they didn't distribute the packets and even worse, that they had no mailman (I just thought to myself, wow!). Anyways, what ended up happening was that the very nice lady called the main post office located at La Feria and had me talk to David, a very nice man also. He asked me my SO's information and told me that the packet had not arrived yet, that they were still receiving packets for March citas. He gave me is extension and told me to call him in about a week to check in with him if he had not called me but that not to worry, because he has our information and we have his so we will be in contact and as soon as the packet gets there we can pick it up.

Crazy huh.............

My SO never even received the packet when it was supposedly mailed.  When he called in mid-February, they told him to call back by a certain date if he hadn't received it.

He never received the packet so he had to go to the embassy to pick it up himself.

Doesn't make sense to mail out packets if no one ever gets them!

That's crazy.  My SO never received her packet either. Makes no sense for them to continue to pay good money to mail packets no one receives. I wonder how many people that don't know about this group have missed citas?  Hell, we were told we didn't even have a cita when we called  Mexico about the packet, when in fact we did.  I wonder if it's how they thin out the bunch ?

I could only imagine how it will be for my SO cuz he lives in Samana and I can't even remember where the post office is their. We are not even going to stress it We are just going to go to the embassy to get it when we have our cita date.

You don't have to worry your case is CR1 you get it via email

Just another reason to skip K1 and do CR1

It's not crazy, it's just what IS. We have said many many times that there is NO postal service in the DR for all intents and purposes. As for the money, it would cost a fortune for them to send out the packets via courier. The only reason they do it for visas is so Dominicans don't steal them from the mail and use them to get into the country illegally.

so does that mean that my SO should try to go tot he post office in DR to get the packet himself?, since we missed our appointment and he never received the package! maybe we shouldnt wait for it a second time.

NO if he didn't get it the first time do not expect him to get it a 2nd time

There is virtually NO DR POST OFFICE ..

Keep track of the appointment list and/or keep calling the visa specialist .. when your interview comes around be prepared to call in a pick up at the consulate 14 days before
