We were thinking of traveling to Honduras and Costa Rica during this year for about a week each. She's never traveled and I've never been to either of those places. But I was thinking that this might help her get a visa. Does this make sense?

Are there any other countries that we can fly to that will give her a better chance of being approved for the tourist visa?

Thanks.

need a bit more info from you.

1- are you a USC? If so - forget about a tourist visa

2- does she have strong ties to DR? e.g. $$ in the bank; property in her name; no relatives in USA?

3- to answer your original question; no, it does not matter if you travel to another country other than USA in order to have better chances for a US tourist visa.

4- Do you live in DR or are you just visiting? Do you have resident staus in DR?

save your time and money. Marry your GF and apply for CR-1 visa thru DCF app process. US tourist visas for Dominicans are VERY hard to acquire.

Thanks for the post.

Why would it matter if I'm a USC? Let's say she's doing this all alone (ie. she doesn't have a boyfriend).

I thought the main factor of getting a visa was to prove that she would return to DR. If she does travel and does come back to DR, then she'd have evidence that she does return to her home country.

She doesn't have any relatives in the US, she has a good job that pays her a good salary (to DR standards), she has savings in a bank, but she doesn't have properties in her name.

For any other country that would be enough but for the DR it is just not.  There have been many people whom have had more assets than your girlfriend and still been turned down for a tourist visa.  The current opinion is that only extremely wealthy or old people get the  visas.

As for her traveling to other countries and returning, the US does not care about that because in an arrogant way they feel that the other countries dont have what the US has and therefore a person would not return from the US.  3sheik is right, if you want to be with her  in the US then you need to be prepared to get married.  Sorry but that is the brutal truth of it, trust me we would have all gone that route if it really helped.

I can tell you from personal experience, last year my then boyfriend went this route.  He was single, no kids, good job and he applied as if he were single, and he was denied.  They flat out told him NO! (A very young girl, who apparently had just gotten a tongue ring and would not stop clanking it against her teeth)  She said, he was too young.  No Debt.  Good Job (8Years) with great references.  Master's degree and all that good stuff.  They told him, that he would have no reason to return to the country had they given him a visitor's visa.  Point blank.

My uncle however, same profile got all of my grandparents properties and bank certificates with their life savings in his name and he was approved.  I think having lots of money and properties is the only thing that will seperate those from getting denied or approved.

The visa requirements to be able to travel to Costa Rica, Honduras and other places is not the same as trying to get a tourist visa to the USA

And even when she gets those she has to give information as to why and who is paying the expenses

How will she explain how she paid for all those trips IF like you say she is single Huh?

You are trying to beat the system and that never turns out too well as YOU ARE LYING to get the VISA ..

She has a BF in the USA .. DENIED

She has to have stronger ties than just a good job and some cash in the bank. She has to have property (lots of it), enough in the bank to live off of and a FAMILY she needs to come back to like Husband and kids ..

It makes sense. Thanks for the information.

I do have to take issue (in a funny sorta way) with BanginMa's comment:
How will she explain how she paid for all those trips IF like you say she is single Huh?

Believe it or not, she can pay for those trips if she wanted to go. Not all single Dominicans are broke lol. She may not be rich, but you don't need to be to travel twice in a year.

True, logically ...under what we consider "NORMAL" circumstances .... but when you add in all the other factors they use for denials .... you basically do have to be "rich" to be approved to travel.

If she tries to LIE and say she has no BF and is going to those countries...THEY WILL FIND OUT! If she tries to travel to CR she still needs to apply for a visa. My husband tried to get one so we could visit and he was a teacher in DR with all of his credentials, no record and no kids...and was denied! My friends from DR had been there for 4 months and when reapplied 3 times the religious visa to CR was denied. It is changing a lot and they are strict. If your gf says she is single they may assume she is going there for prostitution purposes.

You are right Mexicana.  I just saw on CNN the other night (I tried looking for the vid on CNN.com but I can't find it this second) about how over 430 women were recently deported from various south american countries for prostitution.

You guys all have some very very weird ideas about tourist visas. NONE of you are correct except BanginMa & Sheik.

Tim, what part of my statement is false? I don't know who you are talking to about visas to Costa Rica but you DO need to apply for one if you are from DR. A costarican friend of mine worked for the consulate and she said that the DR was one of the top countries that they dealt with in prostitution. That is why it has become harder to get into the country.
