Hi Everyone,
Our cita is rapidly approaching and we have a few questions for you all as we are getting ourselves organized in preparation.  Actually we have a lot of questions, so brace yourselves...

Regarding the birth certificate:  our is inextensa, but it says that it was legalized by the Oficina Central del Estado Civil.  We had the legalization done in San Francisco de Macoris.  I am worried because the form says that it needs to be legalized by the Junta Central Electoral.  Is this the same thing?  Also, will we need another original of his birth certificate for the Adjustment of Status in a few months?

Regarding the passport photos: the letter says to bring two.  Is this really enough?  I see a spot on one of the forms to include a photo, should we bring more than two?

When looking at a map of SD, I noticed that the US Embassy and the US Consulate are located in two separate buildings about a block away from each other.  Which office should we be going to?  I'm guessing the morning of it will be clear based on where the lines are forming...

Regarding the medical: my fiance was given back his chest x-ray.  Should we bring this to the interview?

Regarding form DS156: we have two copies with the same bar code on both.  Should we have two copies with two different bar codes?

Regarding the affidavit of support: we are using my father as a cosponsor.  He files his taxes jointly with my mother.  Should I include the total of both, which is the total his taxes state or should I find his individual income.  They each make enough separately, but I'm confused because their taxes are together.

Finally, I remember someone saying that some of the forms needed to be signed in front of the CO, so I haven't let my fiance sign anything.  Are there forms that he should sign ahead of time?

Thanks for your advice!

One more question to add to the list... Unfortunately, I have a feeling it may not be the last either...

I know that it is helpful if we can get a copy of the vaccination record at some point in this process.  At what point would this be possible?  My fiance asked when he went for the exam and was told no.  Also, is it just a copy of the vaccination record that we want or a copy of the whole exam?

Regarding the passport photos: the letter says to bring two.  Is this really enough?  I see a spot on one of the forms to include a photo, should we bring more than two? 2 .. 2x2 pictures is all that is needed the day of the interview

When looking at a map of SD, I noticed that the US Embassy and the US Consulate are located in two separate buildings about a block away from each other.  Which office should we be going to?  I'm guessing the morning of it will be clear based on where the lines are forming... just look for the line  rolling on the floor laughing

Regarding the medical: my fiance was given back his chest x-ray.  Should we bring this to the interview? no you don't need to take the xray

Regarding form DS156: we have two copies with the same bar code on both.  Should we have two copies with two different bar codes? Huh? just take whatever printed out

Regarding the affidavit of support: we are using my father as a cosponsor.  He files his taxes jointly with my mother.  Should I include the total of both, which is the total his taxes state or should I find his individual income.  They each make enough separately, but I'm confused because their taxes are together. you must include the I-864A if they filed jointly

Finally, I remember someone saying that some of the forms needed to be signed in front of the CO, so I haven't let my fiance sign anything.  Are there forms that he should sign ahead of time? ds230 part II is signed at consulate whatever else should be noted on the form what can be signed and what can not be signed

Thanks for your advice!

you were supposed to request this when you did the medical as they charge a fee for an extra copy .. you can request when you go pick the medical up

I have the I-864A for my father since we have the same address.  Will I need a separate one for my mother as well?

I'm still a bit confused on this.  I found an old post of someone who had the same issues (their cosponsor had filed their taxes jointly with their own spouse) and they we're told that they could include just one I-864A and just write what that one person had made.  Can someone please confirm that this info is correct.  Thanks so much!  Just a couple more days until our cita...

Regarding the passport photos: the letter says to bring two.  Is this really enough?  I see a spot on one of the forms to include a photo, should we bring more than two?

The Consulate only needs 2, but you should probably bring more. I brought copies of everything, including the pictures, just in case they lost something.

When looking at a map of SD, I noticed that the US Embassy and the US Consulate are located in two separate buildings about a block away from each other.  Which office should we be going to?  I'm guessing the morning of it will be clear based on where the lines are forming...

The Consulate is at the Corner of Cesar Nicolas Penson and Maximo Gomez, right next to the Texaco Station.  You will see the line. The one that says US Consulate on Google Maps is the correct building.

My SO's birth certificate, which was legalized in  Santo Domingo has a bar code sticker  on the back that says " La Firma estampada en este documento ha sido certificado por la oficina Central de la Estado Civil 08/12/2009 02:42:48 p.m." That is the legalization. Get 2 copies, you will need the other one for AOS, among other things.

Regarding form DS156: we have two copies with the same bar code on both.  Should we have two copies with two different bar codes?
You print two copies of the same one. After you fill out the form, the completed copy pops up with a bar code on it. Print two copies, they should have the same bar code.

I know that it is helpful if we can get a copy of the vaccination record at some point in this process.  At what point would this be possible?  My fiance asked when he went for the exam and was told no.  Also, is it just a copy of the vaccination record that we want or a copy of the whole exam?
My SO asked during her exam and they told her the same thing. When we picked up the results before the interview, the supplement was stapled to the outside of the envelope. If it's not there, then you should ask before you leave the Clinica. It would be great if you could get a copy of the entire medical, but they will only give you a copy of the vaccination supplement

Best of luck!

FYI, the bar code on all your documents is just your case number in bar code form, so it SHOULD be the same if you print multiple copies (recommended).

Thanks to everyone for their help!!!

We were approved!  I have to say it was a very painless interview and we were back at our hotel by 9:30am.  They didn't even ask for the AOS or to see any of our evidence besides just our photos.  Once he saw the photos of both of our families together for Christmas dinner he gave us the approval.

Again thanks for all of your help and guidance!
