In Part 3. of form I-485 it asks for for nonimmigrant visa number??

Is this the control # on the visa issued?

I had entered the I-94 # earlier on the form.

What should be entered here?

Quick Question

Form I-485 Part 1

A# (if any) - This is the part in question:


- Would I fill "N/A" in this field or is this # the A # on the back of the I-94?

I haven't been finding information for that section online.

Some sites are saying it is on the back of the I-94, others say it is on the NOA2, and some sites say it isn't important to put the A# on the forms at all?

You don't specifically HAVE an A number until you get the GC, but putting it in won't hurt. If it was me, I would have put N/A.

Why is that??
The A# on my hubby's GC is the same one in all noa...or does it change for some???

It should all be the same I looked at Keila's NOA2 and I_94, they match up minus one # the inspection agent at POE wrote a different #

Rhenny, you just proved my point. There have also been situations where it is different on the GC so if you want to err on the side of safety, I would STILL put N/A. Yes, in 90% of cases it will be the same but not in ALL of them.

When you get an A# sort of depends. You mos def get one by the time you have a GC. You also get one if you are placed in formal removal proceedings. In most cases filed while the immigrant is in the US (i.e. AOS or Asylum), you get one as soon as your case is accepted (i.e. NOA1) unless you already have one. Lately, it appears that they have been pretty consistent in assigning A#s to approved beneficiaries of I-129F petitions too.

If your NOA2 and I-94 include a number, I would include it, because it give the person reviewing a quick access to all of the information in your SO's file. If the handwritten I-94 number doesn't match, 1st check if it is just missing the initial zero. A#s are 8 or 9 digits and in the case of a 9 digit A# it is normally a zero (never seen a case where that was not true; I think the 9th digit is reserved for when they need them in the future). If it is just minus the 1st zero, there is no discrepancy. If there really is a difference in the number, I would consider writing both with an explanation.
